We are lucky in this area to have so many Dressage Club’s that work tirelessly to provide us with such good competitions.
Singleton Dressage Club is a small rider friendly club and we love attending their events. They put in a real effort to give riders good draw times and the Showground is just so beautiful.
The new sand on the ground courtesy of Coolmore and the Silver Spurs Show-jumping club has made a big improvement to the going and the horses worked very well on it.
Werakata entered 8 horses which was novel as we have a 5 horse truck! Thanks to Rebel for allowing us to use her truck to get all the troops there.
Andrew had his sad dressage face on all day but still managed to win 3 out of 3 with a top score on the beautiful Vienna of 80% in the unofficial Preliminary 1.3. Well done owner Linda Greenwood who came along and glammed up the dressage nicely.
Bradgate Park Grafenhurst won both Official Novice tests with a 71.8 and 71.2%. He is so consistent and being big black and flashy doesn’t hurt!
The very exciting part of the weekend was Bradgate Park Dolce attending her first competition! She’s a tiny little bombshell of talent and she took the day in her stride with a win (74%) and a second (69%)in the official preliminary. She’s a little star on the rise this one.
The angelic mare Bradgate Park Dior owned by Anne-Marie Sorrensen put her perfect feet forward to win both Elementary’s with a 64 and 65%. It’s a pleasure to ride this horse who tries her absolute best all the time.
Taylor, Mel, Chloe and Jenna put their dressage legs on and all rode really well placing in their classes. Well done girls!
So thank you Singleton, we will be back!:)
We are a few events behind with our updates so bear with us!
Heat, Gatorade, Bubbles and Coronas pretty much sums up the successful Quirindi CIC event. Oh, and the wonderful coffee in the coffee van! We just love coming to Quirindi and so do the kids.
Darryl and Vicky Burgess and the rest of the committee deserve a huge thank you for stepping in and moving Quirindi’s event forward, stepping into Scone’s spot after the drought forced them to cancel. Thanks also to the major sponsor of the event MITAVITE for their generous sponsorship. Mitavite has been a long time sponsor of Werakata Farm and great supporters of horse sports in Australia.
Quirindi is a beautiful part of the world and there is just the most wonderful feel about the event there. It’s a great cross country course and the jumps were turned out well. It’s worth a mention that when other places can be as hard as a rock due to the lack of rain, Quirindi’s black soil always feels great to ride on. I’ve heard a couple of people say over the years that they see the cracks in the ground and worry it’s too hard but it crumbles beautifully with just the right amount of give. Just make sure if it’s wet you grease the inside of your horses hooves!!!
All our horses put in solid performances. Perfect Partner, Hubert and Go Kidman put in consistent performance in the ev 95 open division to finish 3rd, 5th and 8th. Bradgate Park Galileo is showing signs of following in his older brothers (Dante’s) footsteps finishing 4th in the ev105cm. The star of the truck was Marlin Park Vienna owned by Linda Greenwood who won the ev 80 finishing on her dressage score.
We also must mention Jenna Pace ( who is one of our three new working pupils) having her first eventing start. She blew the field away winning the ev60.
I must also mention to those who know how famous I am at breaking, anything that’s mechanical that I did manage to locate and fix the big water leak that occurred on Saturday night! This gained me some serious brownie points!
What a week!!! I would like to thank everyone for their lovely messages both during and after Bradgate Park Fonzie and I were lucky enough to win the Horseware Australia CCI two star at Melbourne 3de.
Special thanks go to Horseware Australia for sponsoring the 2* class as well as all the other sponsors and the organising committee that made Melbourne such a great event.
Congratulations to all the other competitors, especially the winning young rider team. Well done to Grace Kay on your win in the 1*! It was great to see you do so well.
Fonzie was just about foot perfect all weekend! We had a slight but fairly stressful hiccup when he studded his back pastern cross country and pulled up a little off. A huge thanks to Fiona Hughes for your generous help and advice to help get us through trot up. What a legend! I could actually hear you riding me home in the Showjumping from your commentary box!
Also to Tallara Barwick who stepped in at the last minute for some extra help in the showjumping warm up. It couldn’t have gone any better and you’re advice and help were much appreciated.
My amazing cool down crew of Bruce Farrar, the Ramsey Family,
Grace Kay and Mel Webber. You guys were great!
A big thanks to Mel Webber who travelled down with me and competed very successfully in the one star. Thankyou for your help especially your wonderful plaiting!
I can’t thank John and Bev Healey from Bradgate Park enough for the opportunity to ride such a special horse. You two are just as amazing as your horse!
To my fantastic sponsors Mitavite who keep my horses looking and performing so well we appreciate your continued support.
Also to Cwd Australia and Samshield Australia who supply me with great gear. I’ve had a pretty good run since swapping into the Cwd Classic saddles!!
Finally to my amazing support crew at home. Chloe and Taylor for keeping everything running smoothly and for all their help in the lead up to Melbourne. So much effort was put in with the early morning gallops and all the little extra’s. Your help is greatly appreciated and we are lucky to have two such special members of our team.
To my amazing partner Tarsha Hammond. We all know your the brains behind this outfit. I know you don’t think I always listen but clearly I must a little:)!
Thanks Fonz Bomb! You are a great horse
We have been very slow on the updates but very busy on the competition front. Aph Sparky stepped up to two star in style. Winning three consecutive two stars. Starting with Quirindi, followed by the National title at Equestriad, topping it off with a win at Sydney 3de in the Cic 2 star. He has now been sold and we wish his new owners all the best with this fantastic home bred horse.
Bradgate Park Fonzie came 8th at Equestriad in a big field and then won the two star in at Tamworth.
We have had numerous other young horses competing with great results.
A Massive thanks to all the sponsors and committees we have had a great time at all the events!
A huge thankyou to the Burnheim family and John and Bev Healey at Bradgate Park. Without breeders as committed as yourselves none of the past few months results would be possible. It’s a massive commitment to bred and produce horses through to a high level and it’s great to see that they are being breed in Australia.
Also a massive shout out to our great sponsors Mitavite. We have found the “Athlete Plus” an amazing help in our feeding program. With most of the horses these days being warmbloods it really has helped with repair and recovery.
Also to Cwd Australia who supplies us with amazing gear!!! Next stop Melbourne 3de.
The 2017 competition season for Werakata Farm began a few weeks ago with a T-shirt day at Alexander Park Dressage. The APDC always goes above and beyond and super draw secretary Wendy always ensures a comfortable draw for horses and riders.
Taylor Foley and the incredibly smart Tuna Fish had a great day bringing home 2 blue ribbons in the AOR Elementary and scoring a huge 70% in the 3.1! So proud of these two.
Andrew rode John and Bev Healey’s ‘Bradgate Park Dexter’ in the novice class for a 2nd with 79% in the 2.1 and 4th with 77% in the 2.2. Dexter is a flashy horse that makes Andrew ‘quite enjoy doing dressage’! *GASP* Unheard of!
Tarsha began her competition partnership with ‘Bradgate Park Gus’ competing in the prelim picking up a 2nd and 4th. Gus is a half brother to the successful 2* eventers ‘Bradgte Park Dante’. They are both out of a wonderful Appaloosa mare ‘Molly’ that has produced 4 seriously good performance horses. We have really high hopes for Gus.
Henry and Phoebe came to provide moral support and although they were disappointed they couldn’t bring Jack and Luke for a ride, the attraction of the Lions food van provided plenty of motivation.
Thanks to APDC for a wonderful competition and the generous lunch tickets!
Andrews next competition is this weekend for the ‘Wallaby Hill Extravaganza’.
What a week! ‘Bradgate Park Dante’ affectionately known as “Dangles” has been amazingly consistent all year and topped it off by winning the CCI 2* at the Australian International 3DE held in Adelaide.
It was also great to be part of the winning NSW team, consisting of myself, Jess Rae, Rob Palm and Sophie Adams.
This is the first time I have competed at Adelaide. I thoroughly enjoyed the amazing setting and atmosphere and can’t wait to go back. We had a great trip over and back with co pilots Jess Rae, Tess Pressdee, Skye Ramsey and Dad. Lots of laughs, food stops, toilet breaks, fuel and sleeping!
Huge thanks to the owners of ‘Dangles’, John and Bev Healey of Bradgate Park. Your on going support and commitment is just amazing, and I probably wouldn’t have taken up eventing without your encouragement! I hope this is start of bigger things to come.
I am very lucky to have an amazing support team behind myself and ‘Dangles’, which is lead by my amazing partner, Tarsha Hammond. You’re a super coach and mentor and without your guidance and support my eventing would’ve been short lived!
My super stand in show groom Skye Ramsey. You had very big shoes to fill in for Taylor Foley and you smashed it! Thanks also to Chloe Palmer, who kept everything running smoothly at home whilst we were away.
Kim Dunda Latter and the team at Mitavite for the ongoing sponsorship. It’s not just the fact that you supply us great feed, it’s the ongoing support with detailed information and advice that you provide that really helps fine tune and balance my horse’s feed giving them the best ability to perform and recover. This year we have really incorporated the use of Athlete plus to aid the horses recovery.
CWD Australia for supplying me with such great saddles and gear.
Dangles and I were very unlucky having a big fall at ‘Canberra Horse Trials’ a few weeks before Adelaide. I can’t thank Sharon May Davis for all the horse physio, massage and ongoing treatments she has helped us with just before Adelaide.
Also Linda Greenwood from Anytime Fitness Wyoming who organises the amazing Ange Collongues to do home visits to get me back in the saddle!
I can’t thank the Simpson family enough for showing my Dad the social side of Adelaide. He had an amazing time and loved every minute. It’s been a tough year emotionally with the passing of my mum and it was great to have him there.
Thank you to everybody who called or messaged with support over the weekend, and to those who kept Tarsha updated throughout the weekend.
After a little break between events filled with late nights watching the Aussies eventers win the bronze at Rio, we hit the road to Tamworth CIC.
Tamworth is definitely a favourite on the calendar. Alec is a fantastic facility. Easy parking, great stabling and one of the few courses when you see just about every jump. The footing on the cross country was great and the new start and fences have really helped the flow of the course.
Tarshas long, long, long awaited return to eventing will have to wait a little longer after her horse was a little lame with a boot rub on the Saturday morning. Bradgate Park Dantes 3 star debute was also postponed after he did a small over reach.
The horses that actually ran were fantastic. Bradgate Fonzie was the winner of the CIC 2 star sponsored by Tamworth Landrover. He was very consistent in all three phases and it was a good start to his Adelaide preparation.
The Simpson’s family Tiraumea Coachmen put in solid performance in all of his phases to finish 6th in the CIC Tamworth Saddleworld One star.
Coach is an absolute sweetheart and he won Phoebe over in this special moment❤️
A huge round of applause please for Chloe Palmer, our working student who finished second in the Ev80 on her fabulous horse.
Big thanks to our great sponsors Mitavite. Fonzie’s winning recipe is Cool Performer and Athlete Plus. These feeds are great are great to increase lasting energy levels while not getting him too hot.
Thanks also to Kaden Weaver at Cwd Australia for their great gear. My wonderful new classic saddles have arrived. I use these both in Showjumping and cross country and find they provide great stability with such a secure leg position.
Thanks to the organising committee for such a great event. Onwards now to the run towards Adelaide!
We’ve had a couple of very busy weeks at ‘Werakata Farm’ in the lead up to Melbourne International 3 day event. Starting with Tamworth International event which was Bradgate Park Dantes last cross country event before leaving for Melbourne.
We really enjoy going to AELEC, great facilities, easy parking and one of the few events where you can see almost every fence on the cross country course. It was great to see Tamworth event, like many others this year having a record number of entries.
Dante was his usual reliable self with another great, effortless cross country round to win the CNC 2*.
Dantes younger brother Bradgate Park Bizmark stepped up to EVA 95 finishing in 10th after a very consistent dressage test and like his older brother, is a cross country machine.
Bradgate Park Gus, also brother to Dante and Bizmark completed his second EVA 80 to finish on his dressage score in 2nd place. Gus is by eventing super sire Grafenstolz, we have very high hopes for him.
Our home bred horse ‘Hunky Dory’ aka Henry, who is by Higgins had his first outing in the EVA 80. Coping very well with the atmosphere at Tamworth finishing 6th.
Unfortunately, I didn’t read the qualifications for CCI2* correctly, therefore Bradgate Park Dante will be competing in the CCI1* at Melbourne this week.
Last weekend Bradgate Park Dante and Bradgate Park Fonzie competed at Alexander Park Dressage Clubs official competition. Dante won both his novice tests with scores of 70%. Fonzie won his first elementary test for the day, but unfortunately I was let out unsupervised for the day and missed my time for the second test.
Big thank you to B & S Simpson Blasting and Painting (Brian, Scott, Sandy and Gemma) for putting in our new chest bins before Melbourne, made packing the truck far easier and for the on going servicing and maintenance of the truck.
Once again a big thank you to our sponsors Mitavite and CWD Australia and our wonderful owners John and Bev Healey.
Sydney International Event!
A huge thank you to the committee, stewards, volunteers and all associated with the Sydney International Horse Trials. After the tragic circumstances of the weekend before the re run event went as well as it possibly could, and I take my hat off to you all for all your efforts.
I was extremely happy with Bradgate Park Dante who was the winner of the CIC Eventing NSW 2 star. He is starting to be much more relaxed in the dressage, and we had a super round cross-country. I was very impressed with how careful he was Showjumping and he just keeps on going from strength to strength. This horse was John and Bev Healey of Bradgate Park’s first attempt at breeding an eventer and didn’t they do well. Thanks guys for your great vision!
Big thanks to my sponsors CWD Australia for all my great gear. Mitavite for keeping my horses looking great. Dangles (Dante) has been feeling great on the Formula 3 and Athlete plus!
I am over the moon for with the result but like all the other competitors at the event would do anything to change the tragedy of the weekend before.
Berrima Horse Trials!
Congratulations to Berrima horse trials for putting on such a great event. The southern highlands certainly turned on the weather with a refreshing cool change. Sutton Forest Equestian Centre did a fantastic job hosting everyone on the Saturday night. They were extremely helpful and we look forward to staying there again.
We had a great night at the local pub. The food was good, they coped with the riders en-masse and it’s great to have night that gets everyone together.
Well done to the committee as there were many new improvements and variations to the cross country course and it rode well.
We had a very easy weekend with only two horses competing.
Bradgate Park Bizmark had a great weekend finishing
6 th in the Raine and Horne Southern highlands EV 80.
His older brother Bradgate Park Dante finished second in the Cientennial Vinyards CIC 2 star.
Both of these horses are out of a wonderful mare Molly, who is retired with the Knight family at Coonabarrabran. Thanks guys! She has endowed them all with a bravery that makes them such great cross country horses. Thanks Molly.
Well done to our working pupil Chloe Palmer. It was her first weekend away eventing and she not only did a great job on the grooming side but got up for a win in the Horsezone EV 60. Good job!
Thank-you to the organising committee and all sponsors involved.
Big thanks to our sponsors Mitavite. As Fonzie and Dangles (Dante) are getting the higher levels we have found ATHLETE PLUS to be a great feed for longer lasting energy- thanks for the hot tip Kim!
Also Cwd Australia for the great gear they provide!
As always to super owners John and Bev Healey you guys are amazing, and make the ride so much more enjoyable.
February 16 – 17th – Quirindi Event – Had a great weekend at the Mitavite Quirindi One Day Event! Huge thanks and well done to Vicki and Daryl Burgess alongside the Quirindi eventing committee for running such a successful event. The cross country course rode very well, we loved the new jumps and to top it off the going was perfect!
Bradgate Park Fonzie was successful again winning the Marsh Carney CNC 1 star class, despite the best effort of an elusive chip packet that sat at X in his dressage, which Fonzie found quite terrifying.
Bradgate Park Dexter had his first EV95 start in the Mitavite Open class and finished off his weekend with a lovely cross country round!
We were lucky enough to have a dinner party in the Farrers truck consisting of great food, wine and company; with compliments to Masterchefs Sharon Palmeri and Sam Farrar!
Unfortunately a severe crash on the New England highway hindered our journey home, sending us on a detour of very windy, dusty roads out the back of Gundy, however got to enjoy the scenery on our way!
Many thanks to our sponsors Mitavite for keeping our horses looking fantastic and performing consistently. Also thanks to Kaden Weaver of CWD for supplying me with my CWD jump saddle, seems to be Fonzie’s lucky saddle!! Another huge thanks goes out to John and Bev Healey of Bradgate Park for breeding such amazing horses. We hope everyone gets home safely.
February 7 – 8th Scone Event – The weekend saw Andrew competing at Scone for his first event back for the year. The horses cruised around the cross country, thanks to our course giving us the opportunity to school the horses easily leading up to the event. Andrew had a great weekend with Bradgate Park Fonzie placing 2nd in the ‘March Carney Saddlery CNC 1* A’, Bradgate Park Dante placing 3rd in the ‘Bates Saddles CNC 1* B’ and Bradgate Park Dexter finishing 3rd at his first outing in the ‘Hunted Gourmet EVA 80 C. Our working pupil Tayla Mcgilvray won the ‘Kuro Kin Wagyu EVA 80 B’ class on her horse FG T-Rex.
February 22nd Bradgate Park Dressage with Altitude – The whole family packed up to travel to Orange for the 2015 Dressage with Altitude. Tarsha riding Bradgate Park Freddy and Taylor riding her own Siena Foxtrot.
February 13 Tamworth Indoor Championships- Andrew and Verushka won the ‘Forty Winks Futurity’ class in Tamworth and the next day placed 5th in the 145cm ‘Grand Prix’ class.
February 8th Alexander Park Dressage Clubs members day – Andrew aboard Bradgate Park Fonzie and Tarsha riding Bradgate Park Foxtrot! This was Tarsha’s first competition since having Phoebe, with a win in the 2.1 and Andrew also having a win in the 2.2.
